Firenze
Capital of Tuscany, Florence is considered to be the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. It flourished under the rule of the Medici family and it has an enormous artistic heritage. Places to visit are: the Duomo (Cathedral), the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Pitti.
Bologna
University town and capital of the Emilia Romagna region, Bologna is known for its historic centre of medieval origin. Particularly famous are the two noble towers in the heart of the city. Another famous symbol of Bologna’s is the Piazza Maggiore which houses the great Basilica of San Petronio.
Ravenna
A UNESCO treasure, Ravenna is an historically important site. It was the capital of the Western Roman Empire and still holds ancient treasures such as the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare to the Mausoleum of Theodoric and the tomb of the great Italian poet Dante Alighieri.
San Marino
San Marino is considered to be the oldest republic in the world. Located on Mount Titano not far from Rimini it consists of 9 castles divided into fractions called “curazie”. The old city has walls and medieval palaces which are recognizable by the crenellated towers.
Urbino
Urbino, jewel of the Italian Renaissance was the cradle of art under the rule of Duke Federico da Montefeltro. Numerous artists of the caliber of Piero della Francesca worked at his court. The Palazzo Ducale is the symbol of the city and contains the most important works of art, such as the famous studiolo.
Gradara
Gradara is a village in the Marche region, which has historically been dominated by the Malatesta, Sforza and Della Rovere families. The most interesting place in the city is undoubtedly the castle, made famous by Canto V of Dante’s Inferno. La Rocca was in fact the theater of love between Paolo and Francesca.
Rimini
Rimini is the main center of the Romagna Riviera, and a summer resort of international renown. Located on the Adriatic Sea, it has countless hotels, night clubs, bathing establishments and endless entertainment! Rimini is remembered as the homeland of the great director Federico Fellini.
